Singapore

We’ve just begun the final leg of our journey. Arrived in Singapore late on Wednesday night after being up for 45 hours! (With a few half hour naps here and there!) We’ve done a lot of exploring the city on the MRT and wasted a morning traipsing round various embassys trying to sort out visas for Vietnam. There’s plenty to keep us occupied while we wait for the visas to be completed. We went on a night safari which was amazing. There was a tram ride through the enclosures (which weren’t really enclosures because the animals were free to wander round and came right up to the tram) and we got off to do a walking trail where at one point we had bats the size of small humans flying literally in our faces! The night ended with a “Creatures of the Night” show which was very entertaining. Of all the zoos and wildlife parks we’ve been to so far (and that’s quite a few!) this was my favourite.

The next night we dressed up as nicely as we could (which turned out to be quite hard with our backpacker wardrobe!) and went to Raffles Hotel – the most expensive one in Singapore! We wandered round the gardens and admired the hotel restaurant which unfortunately wasn’t quite in our budget. Then we went to another 5* hotel The Swissotel where we took the lift to the 70th floor to a bar which overlooks the whole country. The views were pretty amazing but there was an extra cost to have a window seat so we had to settle for the second row! We ordered a cocktail each which was served by waitresses in backless, black sparkly ball gowns and cost us a lot more than we should have been spending! I went for the Singapore Sling which was a big mistake and definitely not worth the money! It was a good experience though!

Tonight we’re going on a tour of the city on scooters and tomorrow UNIVERSAL STUDIOS!!
